I just realized that I haven't added this piece to my site yet. This is a piece I did last year...I see a lot of mermaids with typical bodies, but really liked the idea of a portly well fed fish lady. I intentionally made extra ledges for adding a variety of marine life in addition to the oyster. All will be singing in unison with the mermaid. This is a resin cast prototype of what I want to do in bronze. When it is finished I want to set her in the middle of a small pond and make a fountain out of it. Water coming out of the oysters mouth and also out of her raised hand. I'm also going to be sculpting a separate sea turtle with the appearance of the upper part of it's shell and head poking out of the water singing as well. This piece measures about 8 ft. tall at the tip of her fingers. This was a speed sculpt that I decided to try to get ready for a show near Miami. From start to finish it took me a week. I've never done such a big piece in so little time. It too shows, but I figured that I could make improvements on it in wax before it's cast in bronze.
Hope you like it...
